Perspectives on Belonging

By: Audrey Soriano, Kindergarten Teacher
A primary goal of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee of the Board is to promote a culture and environment of belonging. During the month of April, the DEI Committee is spotlighting perspectives from community members that showcase the moments when connection and belonging make a difference at Live Oak. Please find the second of four installments of this series below.
“Every day I have the privilege of walking through the hallways of Live Oak and seeing the ways the school supports all identities. Family photos on the first floor showcase the diversity of our families; our library is filled with books that offer different points of view and voices and have a range of authors from all around the world; community assemblies celebrate the cultures, holidays, and traditions of our students; kindergartners complete Family Culture Books filled with photographs and other pieces of their identity; affinity potlucks and gatherings foster connection and belonging. This is just to name a few. I am able to show up as my authentic self because of the countless opportunities and spaces Live Oak creates for all.”
